Travel, Short Breaks and Holidays in Estonia

Estonia Overview

There are few places in Europe where the aura of the 14th and 15th centuries survives intact the way it does in Tallinn's Old Town, a jumble of medieval walls and turrets, needling spires and winding, cobbled streets. Nevertheless, Estonia's capital is so modern it's been dubbed 'a suburb of Helsinki'.

The area of Toompea is home to a bevy of fascinating sights including the 19th-century Russian Orthodox Alexander Nevsky Cathedral; Toomkirik, the Lutheran cathedral founded in 1233; the Estonian Art Museum; and the kookily named Kiek-in-de-Kök, a tall, stout tower built around 1475. -

Estonia Reviews:

Overall Experience: V Good

Tallinn is a surprisingly small city and having taken a short break from working in London it felt like arriving any other small regional European city. We took a taxi from the airport (which was just 10-15 minutes) and arrived at our chosen hotel, the three sisters, which was recommended to us by a friend. I though the Three Sisters Hotel was very pleasant, despite the price tag, but couldn’t help feeling that it is trading off reputation rather than value for money.

The city itself is an ideal place to wind down, and is small enough to walk around in an afternoon. Take time to relax in the Old Town Square. Overall its worth visiting. Marc Chambers, London
