Ski train to French Alps makes journey part of the holiday
Destinations such as Serre Chevalier in the southern French Alps can be travelled to by train, the perfect excuse for some sightseeing of France on the way.
And the destination will not disappoint, with Serre Chevalier offering 13 towns and villages, 250 kilometres of high altitude skiing and 35 kilometres of cross country tracks.
Currently in its second year of a huge investment programme, the ski resort now offers some of the best high altitude pistes in the region, and benefits from around 300 days of sunshine a year.
Additionally it is a great resort to take kids too, having recently gained a Family Plus certificate acknowledging its efforts to allow children and parents to explore the mountains safely.
The resort also benefits from a natural hot spring, which has been the focal point of a new spa in Monetiers Les Bains, that offers up to 1200 adults a day naturally warm waters of 37 degrees Celsius, a jacuzzi and sauna and a health and beauty institute.
Recently, Serre Chevalier came second out of 28 resorts in a survey by French company Contours for the well maintained and groomed pistes it has to offer.
