Krakow hopes to attract gay people for city breaks
Due to the Polish city break destination being overrun by Brits heading for stag parties, many in Krakow are hoping for to pitch the city away from a cheap getaway destination and instead bring in more gay tourists who are likely to spend money and cause less trouble.
Hilary Davies writing in the Guardian has said, however, that some are against the idea, including the Catholic right wing in the city.
Despite that, the move seems to be pressing on, with Izabela Helbin telling the Gazeta Wyborcza: "Research shows that gays and lesbians spend significantly more on holidays and entertainment than tourists travelling with family or friends."
One bar owner has said that "gay tourists behave a lot better" and that he, like many, was now putting up no stag night signs in his windows.
Krakow is one of the cultural capitals of the former communist bloc, offering such itinerary fillers as the Wawel Castle and Cathedral as well as the Museum of History.
