Helsinki city break offers something for everyone
With its cold exterior but long and illustrious history, Helsinki is a city break destination that offers a great mix of culture, architecture and fun.
The Independent has noted the charms of the Finnish capital, which although one of Europe's most northern cities, is also one of the warmest in terms of welcoming people.
It said: "Whether you wish to enjoy music, theatre or the arts, there is plenty to see and experience every day of the week.
"Helsinki is home to seven orchestras, 80 museums, and countless galleries and art exhibitions, not to mention Finlands national opera, theatre and ballet."
It is also a very trendy city, offering some great clubs and bars in areas such as Kamppi and Punavuori, with culture vulture enjoying the scene in the Toolo area.
Helsinki may not be the first place to think of when planning a European city break, but it is one that will guarantee a good time and it won't be a usual, run-of-the-mill affair.
