Climb the highest peak in Germany

Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany on the Austrian border, is an excellent place for those looking for a little adventure in a European destination.

Located not too far from Munich, the peak is a place "you can't help but marvel at", according to Mr Steves, who suggests a visit to the mountain to take in the "breathtaking" views over Germany and Austria.

At 2,962 metres, the peak is a big one, but luckily there is the option of taking a cable car from the very bottom to the peak on both the Austrian and German side of the mountain.

As well as being naturally awe inspiring, the mountain has had its fair share of history, with it even being involved in World War II, when the Germans blew up the Austrian side to use it as a flak tower.

There is a restaurant on the mountain, so as well as the cable car trip up to the peak you can have lunch as well, making it the perfect excursion for anyone planning a city break to somewhere nearby such as Munich.
