Hi My girlfriends and I are wanting to plan an Italian Villa holiday in 2012. We will leave the husbands and kids behind in South Africa and enjoy a week of wine and relaxation in Italy.

Is Tuscany the best place to go to? Can you give me any hints of amazing undiscovered places to stay?

We are imagining the settings in movies like Stealing Beauty or Kenneth Branagh's Mudo Ado About Nothing - are we crazy? Do these places actually exist???

I'm nervous of simply picking something off the Internet and would love to chat to people who have experienced Italy and can offer good advice.

Thank you,
Kerry

Hi I lived in Italy for over a year, and in my oppinion the region of Piemonte is just as stunning as Tuscany!! We stayed at a private place and they do accept groups but its a "word of mouth place" it was stunning especially as its now going into Spring. We went to a local wine festival and drank wine and danced all night!! The place where we stayed picked us up and dropped us off so we could drink all we want!! hehe. I really recommend Piemonte!! Everyone goes to Tuscany I loved Tuscany also but I found the Piedmonte region less Touristy and as far as I could see really undiscovered. The wine and the food are fantastic, and everywhere you look theres rolling mountains!! It really is pretty. The place where we stayed had a pool and a cellar so if we didnt want to go out we stayed in and they would cook for us, or one night they dropped us at a local restaurant. If your going with the girls, you would love it!! house but its big and really stunning, it has French/English style but the owners were so friendly and because they only do it privately and its not a big commercial place their really relaxed and easy. I dont know if you know much about wine but this region is famous for Barollo, Barbera, Asti and millions of others which are really famous wines. Also the food is wonderful we did a day of cooking, and then a bike tour another day, and then they house had a pool so one day we swam and ate and drank!! As you cantell It was really a brilliant time. Good luck hope you and the girls have a brilliant time. Inez
